Waterfall Bay hut is ‘googie’ style fibreglass hut on Macquarie Island.

Waterfall Bay hut is ‘googie’ style fibreglass hut, similar to the hut at Brothers Point. It was installed in 1993–94 as a replacement for the original Lusitania Bay hut located to the south. The hut comfortably sleeps three people.

Waterfall Bay hut is approximately 7 km south of Green Gorge and approximately 18 km south of Macquarie Island station (as the crow flies). The hut is a convenient stop for expeditioners travelling down island. It is well placed as a research base for the large king penguin colony at Lusitania Bay. The hut is easily accessible via the Jessie Nichol track from the north, or the Mt. Martin track from the south. These tracks are subsidiaries of the main north-south overland track.

The coastal strip is designated a category two Special Management Area, except for the area immediately next to the hut.

Waterfall Bay hut is not frequently visited by expeditioners. This makes it a perfect place to get a feel for the remote nature of Macquarie Island.
